ABSTRACT:
The paper examines the proceedings of the “Regional Congress of the Romanian Front,” held in Odesa in December 1917, against the backdrop of the collapsing front and the rise of Bolshevism. The delegates represented various factions – Bolsheviks, Socialist Revolutionaries, Defensists, Russian and Ukrainian Social Democrats – but the Bolshevik majority imposed control over the congress, marginalizing the opposition. Debates over peace, the Constituent Assembly, and relations with Romania degenerated into political and national confrontations. The congress adopted radical resolutions supporting the Bolshevik government and protesting against the “abuses of Romanians and Ukrainians.” The event marked the disintegration of the front and the final split between the Bolsheviks and the moderate forces.

REZUMAT:
Articolul examinează desfășurarea „Congresului regional al Frontului Român”, ținut la Odesa în decembrie 1917, pe fundalul prăbușirii frontului și al ascensiunii bolșevice. Delegații reprezentau o varietate de orientări – bolșevici, socialiștirevoluționari, defensiști, social-democrați ruși și ucraineni – dar majoritatea bolșevică a impus controlul asupra lucrărilor, marginalizând opoziția. Discuțiile despre pace, Adunarea Constituantă și relațiile cu România au degenerat în confruntări politice și naționale. Congresul a adoptat rezoluții radicale, susținând guvernul bolșevic și protestând împotriva „abuzurilor românilor și ucrainenilor”. Evenimentul a marcat destrămarea frontului și ruptura definitivă dintre bolșevici și forțele moderate.

Gheorghe Cojocaru, Doctor Habilitatus in History, is the Director of the History Institute at Moldova State University, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova and Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy. Dr. Cojocaru has made significant contribution to the study of the establishment and activities of Bessarabia’s first legislative body, Sfatul Țării (the  Council of the Country); the complex and non-linear process of Bessarabia’s integration into Romania; the origins, evolution, and forms of manifestation of “Moldovenism” and Bolshevik totalitarianism in the area east of the Prut River during the twentieth century. He has published over 170 studies.
