ABSTRACT:
The battle of Țuțora (1620) has been extensively discussed in Polish historiography, but remains insufficiently examined in Romanian research, despite its relevance for the history of Moldavia and for the wider Polish-Ottoman conflict. This article presents a Polish campaign journal written in 1620, which offers a rare first-hand account of the battle and of the dramatic retreat toward the Dniester. The document provides valuable information on the state of the army, internal tensions, relations with Moldavian and Wallachian forces, and the circumstances that led to the collapse of the Polish troops and the death of Grand Hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski.
REZUMAT:
Bătălia de la Țuțora (1620) a fost intens discutată în istoriografia poloneză, însă rămâne insuficient examinată în cercetarea românească, în pofida relevanței sale pentru istoria Moldovei și pentru conflictul mai larg polono-otoman. Articolul de față prezintă un jurnal de campanie polonez redactat în 1620, care oferă o rară relatare directă asupra bătăliei și a dramaticei retrageri spre Nistru. Documentul furnizează informații valoroase despre starea armatei, tensiunile interne, relațiile cu forțele moldovene și muntene, precum și circumstanțele care au dus la destrămarea trupelor poloneze și la moartea marelui hatman Stanisław Żółkiewski.
